There was an element of predictability that stole a bit of momentum, but that is the only thing I didn’t like. This third and final book in the Hex Hall trilogy was actually my least favorite of the three, but only by a little. But without her magic, Sophie isn’t as confident.Īs I’ve already beat you over the head a couple of times with how much I enjoyed this series, I’m going to keep today’s review on the shorter side. The Brannicks know an epic war is coming, and they believe Sophie is the only one powerful enough to stop the world from ending. Or at least that’s what Sophie thinks, until she makes a surprising discovery. Now Sophie is defenseless, alone, and at the mercy of her sworn enemies-the Brannicks, a family of warrior women who hunt down the Prodigium. Rated: Moderate for pretty liberal use of the a-word (well, maybe a dozen times), and some d- and h-words as well. The Overview: Just as Sophie Mercer has come to accept her extraordinary magical powers as a demon, the Prodigium Council strips them away. Hawkins wrapped everything up nicely with a bow on it, managed the love-triangle thing without getting all weird on us, and gave us some fun, magical nonsense in the process. And a great way to end the series, as well. There really isn’t much to be said about this one that I already haven’t said about the other two.

Then - after she discovers that her mother isn’t really who she thought she was (sounds creepy, but it’s not) - she mysteriously gets transported back to Hex Hall (thankfully, BFF, boyfriend, fiance, and ghost-friend get to come, too) to face down the evil demons once and for all.

Then again, when you’re 17, a demon (though not currently in possession of her powers), and facing down some of the most evil people on earth (the problem is that they always think they’re right), then there are not many breaks to be had. I suppose it’s typical, but honestly: Sophie Mercer just can’t catch a break.
